Memories
Memories are bodies under granite--- some parts eaten--- heads swallowed, tongues wagging in my brain.
Memories are no eyes to see... no mouth to tell... skins scraped off each other--- worn until love fell.
Memories are bodies wrapped--- silken--- trapped in webs--- "I will wait for you, " she said.
Memories are silence, feeding on itself, hanging from cave walls in stone chambers where voices echo back, echo back.
Memories are hollow reeds to be blown into: one note comes--- disappears--- never to be heard again.
Memories are steel trap jaws--- wired shut--- bodies guarded--- secrets held close.
Memories are innuendoes in conversations between two, yet more than two voices in one room could tell.
Memories are cremation grounds and the chanting of sacred names, over and over, until the trance comes.
Memories are places on skin, like grooves in records--- melody lines that take time away.
Memories are fragments of stars, murmuring inside my cells, saying, "Yes, I was here--- millions of light years ago.
